Two Anheuser Busch Horses Purchased & Stabled at the Elk Mountain Homestead.
RMEF staff worked with Anheuser Busch to acquire another Anheuser Busch blood line Clydesdale also a filly named Megan. Megan is 27 months old and was stabled near St. Louis, MO. Both horses are now stabled on the Elk Foundation’s property at the Elk Mountain Homestead!!
Barn Renovations
The barn renovations are for the most part complete, with only a few minor upgrades needed which will be completed within a week. Both filly’s are very well mannered and have been around people quite a lot. They are turned out at least twice a day for pasture and exercise. During the heat of the day the horses are kept inside the barn in their newly renovated stalls. The stalls are made of local white oak with new grill work, doors and stall mats. We attempted to keep the look of the early 1900’s timbered barn while transforming the diary barn into a first class horse barn with adjacent paddocks and pasture. Ron Rishel who maintains all the forage plots on the property is caring and handling the horses. He has already become very attached to “his girls”. Kindred and Megan are in very good hands. In Ron’s words, “who would not be proud to be here working in elk country caring for these horses?”
Thank you to Rodger Fleming and Bill Hoffman for organizing the fund raising campaign to purchase the horses and to complete the barn renovations. And most of all and big thank you to all those that contributed to the “Kindred Campaign”. Rawley
